“Parenting is not giving your child everything they want. Parenting is not being your child’s friend. Parenting is about preparing your child to be a useful and respectful person in society”. by Glozell
STG Consulting Enterprise hosted a “Parenting workshop” on the 24th of September 2019 at Phetshile Guesthouse.
Ms Sophia Mogola, a mother of two beautiful children directed the programme very well for us.
The motive for this workshop was to strengthen existing parenting abilities and promote the development of new competencies so that parents have the knowledge and skills needed to carry out child-rearing responsibilities.

Three speakers where present and shared the following topics:

Mrs Siyabonga Mabona
Mrs. GS Mabona is a wife and the mother of two teenagers. She is a Social Work by profession. She studied Social Work Honors Degree at the University of North. She has been working with children for sixteen years
She informed us about the “meaning of children rights and its definition “which went as follows, children’s rights are the human rights of children with particular attention to the rights of special protection and care afforded to minors. Other definitions include the rights to care and nurturing.
There are 54 children’s rights and there are 3 basic rights
• Shelter
• Education
• Health

With each rights having its own responsibility. When dealing with children, rights come first, backed up with responsibility. But with adults the responsibility comes first before the right.
She further continued to brief us about the different stages of a child and explained the challenges that comes with every stage. The stages are:
• 1 month to 2 Years – Infant
• 2 Month to 6 Years – Early Childhood
• 6 years to 11 Years – Middle-childhood
• 12 years to 19 Years- Adolescent

Parenting tips
• Set clear rules about behavior and communicate clearly and effective
• Focus on a child’s behavior and avoid comments about child’s personality or character.
• Set and use clear consequences
• Be flexible and willing to adjust your parenting style.

• 50 year old : I would give anything if dad was here now , so I could talk this out with him too bad I didn’t appreciate how smart he was , I could have learnt a lot from him

He recommenced about the reasons why human beings need parents
• Animals : dominated by instinctive intelligence
• Humans : intellectual and emotional intelligence take a long time to develop
• There is good and bad existing in all human, (to acquire the bad is easy more complex to acquire the good)

Mr. Marcus Masemola
A father of two kids, director of STG, a reverend, mentor, life coach and a qualified workshop facilitator presented the following aspects:
“Children don’t need more things. The best toys a child can have is a parent who gets down on the floor and plays with them.”
A family unit
A family is a group of people that consists of individuals that share the same values and principles.
A normal family you will find a father, mother and the children staying together in one roof. A father being the visionary leader of the family and mother being the helper.
• Ephesians 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife , even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body
• Colossians 3:18 Wives should submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord
• Structure of families (the single parent family consist of one parent raising one or more children on his/her own.)
• Step family (Over half of all marriages end in divorce, and many of these individuals choose to get remarried. This creates the step or blended family which involves two separate families merging into one new unit.

What is the child?
• A child is a blessing from God ( psalms 127:3)
• Children under 18 are legal minors who, in South African law are not fully capable of acting independent without assistance from parents/legal guardians.

GET TO UNDERSTAND YOUR CHILD
• Every child is born unique and different
• Don’t compare your children to another or other children from around your community
• Get to spend some time with your children so you can get to know what type of human being they are
• Learn to listen to your child
• Know when your child needs attention

RAISING A GODLY CHILD
• Teach your child about God
• Make your home a spiritual place
• Study the bible with your kinds ,take them along to church ,Sunday school

CONCLUSION
• Listen , understand , empathize then only discuss and problem solve
• Don’t allow your child to manipulate you
• Remember if you are raising a boy you are training someone’s husband if it’s a girl you’re training someone’s wife
• Pray for your kids
“Life will be full of ups and downs. It will be one tough ride. But your love for your child will be the anchor that will see you through it all “
