A price giving ceremony for Anglo American Goedehoop FET scholarship 2020 1st quarter was held on the 16th March 2021 at G3 Farm in Middelburg. STG consulting enterprise presided over the function and Mr Dugmore from Goedehoop colliery was present as the Keynote Speaker for the day. Distinguished guests – Mr. Samali Marcel from National Skills College, Ms. Gugu Fankomo from the Growth Path College, Ms. Thobile Mkhwanazi Steve Tshwete Local Municipality youth manager were also invited to the function.
The program began with prayer. Then the programme Director Mr. Marcus Masemola gave a welcome speech and he also gave a brief introduction to the academic excellence of the college and the good performance of the students.
A message of support from both colleges and the youth manager was well received and it inspired the students very much. Mr. Dugmore from Anglo American Goedehoop colliery gave a keynote address and he encouraged the students to concentrate more on studies and keep away from any other politics and any bad habits. He also said that students should take responsibility and serve the country through honesty, integrity and stay committed to their studies.
Then the prize-giving session began. The students who were selected as meritorious regarding their academic performance were offered a tablet, power bank, schoolbag each. Then the rest of the student were given a school bag with a journal book and bottle of water.
The Civil Engineering group which their 8, where awarded the best well-mannered group for the programme and their price was that each leaner will be assisted to get a driver’s license sponsored by Anglo American Goedehoop
At the end of the program, 2 students thanked both Colleges for their support and thanked Goedehoop Colliery for awarding them with such an amazing opportunity. The meat inspector gave a short instructive speech on what is expected from the students as they will be starting with their practical’s. Lastly, he thanked all the audiences and declared the end of the program.
The entire programme was a nice display of discipline by students and organizers. The invited guests praised the initiative and hoped for further partnership in shaping the lives of our youth.
Skills Development play a vital role towards preparing the youth to contribute meaningful into the economy of the Country. We need to have more partnership between private and public sector in order to create more skills development programmes especially for our youth.
